George Russell's win in Azerbaijan has cut Kimi Antonelli's championship lead to 66 points, 302 to 236. Lewis Hamilton could only manage sixth and stayed third on 199 points, now 103 points behind the leader. In the constructors' standings, Mercedes has pulled clear with 538 points, 160 ahead of Ferrari, cementing its dominance. The season has completed 15 of 23 rounds, with 208 points still up for grabs across the remaining eight races.

Russell's win closes the gap

Antonelli, who started 16th after hitting the Turn 1 wall in qualifying, recovered to finish fifth for 10 points, while Russell's win banked the full 25, clawing back 15 points in a single race. That leaves Antonelli on 302 and Russell on 236, a gap of 66. Antonelli had arrived at the race on 292 points, so despite the qualifying crash his recovery drive kept the championship damage to a minimum.

Hamilton's slump, and Ferrari's deeper problem

Hamilton started sixth and finished sixth, a stagnant result that stretched his deficit to the leader to 103 points. GPFans described it as 'another miserable day at the office' for Hamilton, noting that Antonelli's recovery from 16th to 5th only made his lack of progress more glaring. The outlet suggested the pattern points to a deeper, systemic issue at Ferrari rather than an individual lapse.

Constructors: Mercedes runs away with it

In the constructors' standings, Mercedes leads on 538 points, 160 clear of second-placed Ferrari on 378. McLaren is third on 306, with Red Bull fourth on 263. With 15 of 23 rounds complete and 208 points still available, Antonelli's 66-point drivers' lead is not yet mathematically safe.
