Kimi Antonelli won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on 6 September from 19th on the grid. He overcame a grid penalty for power unit (PU) components and led the 53 laps to finish 3.857 seconds ahead of second-placed George Russell, according to Lapchive. His championship lead over Russell now stands at 66 points.
Gasly on pole, Antonelli sent to the back
Alpine's Pierre Gasly took pole with a 1:21.786, with Russell 0.060s behind in second. Antonelli qualified seventh but took a 30-place grid penalty for PU elements; Lapchive's working-back shows he actually lost 12 places and started 19th. Italian outlet MotorBox likewise noted that he started from the back of the grid after a power unit component change.
Alexander Albon (20th) and Liam Lawson (22nd) also dropped back, and Fernando Alonso started from the pit lane after components were changed in parc fermé. Oscar Piastri took a three-place drop for impeding car 30 at Turn 2 and started sixth.
Lap-one drama and the safety car
Charles Leclerc started third but did not finish. McLaren's race report says his Ferrari hit the tyre barriers at Parabolica, which brought out the safety car and then a red flag. Lapchive logs Leclerc as completing one lap and puts the safety car on lap 3, so the sources differ slightly on the timing; both are reported here as written.
