FIA stewards reprimanded Franco Colapinto and Sergio Perez over the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza (6 September), and gave Perez a five-second penalty during the race. Antonelli was fined 100 euros for pit lane speeding, and Albon also received a reprimand. Reprimands accumulate towards a grid drop, so they matter for the rest of the season.
Colapinto and Perez reprimanded for ignoring the race director
According to PlanetF1, both drivers were reprimanded for failing to follow instructions from race director Rui Marques before the start. Colapinto performed a practice start and then failed to remain in the pit exit road, crossing the white line in breach of the Race Director's Competition Notes, the verdict said. It is his first reprimand of 2026. Perez was found to have not performed a practice start and crossed the white line before re-crossing it back into the pit exit road, which is prohibited under item 12.6 of the Competition Notes. It is his third reprimand of the year. The same article notes that five driving-related reprimands in a season bring an automatic 10-place grid penalty.
Perez's five seconds: sources give different reasons
Perez also took a five-second penalty during the race and finished 18th. The stated reason differs by outlet. PlanetF1 wrote that it was for failing to rejoin the circuit correctly after going off at Turn 1, while Italian outlet MotorBox said it was for not following the race director's instructions in the run-off areas. GPFans simply lists it as failing to follow the race director's instructions. We have not seen the FIA decision document, so we do not say which is accurate. Lapchive records the penalty as served on lap 30.
Other decisions
- Antonelli: 100 euro fine for pit lane speeding (80.1 km/h) (Lapchive)
- Alexander Albon: reprimand for failing to slow for double yellow flags (his second of the season), plus a black-and-white flag warning for failing to follow race director instructions at Turns 4 and 5
- Liam Lawson: black-and-white flag warning on lap 22 / Lance Stroll: black-and-white flag warning for impeding car 1 before Turn 1
- No further action: George Russell (single yellow flags, Turns 1 and 2), Yuki Tsunoda (start procedure), Carlos Sainz (double yellow flags)
GPFans reported that Tsunoda was investigated over his grid box at the restart after the red flag, but the stewards found he had positioned himself correctly and he kept 10th.
Grid penalties at a glance
The grid penalties set before the race were, per Lapchive, 30 places for Antonelli, 20 for Albon and 35 for Lawson (all for PU elements), and three for Piastri (impeding car 30). Alonso and Lawson also had pit lane starts for parc fermé component changes. Antonelli went on to win from 19th.
