Race flow: an early off and two virtual safety cars

According to PlanetF1's race report, Antonelli ran off at Turn 1 on lap 2, and Verstappen used the moment to pass Leclerc for third. Both Cadillacs stopped around lap 5: Bottas with a brake fire and Pérez with smoke in the cockpit. Lapchive records the two retirements at laps 2 and 4, so the exact laps differ between sources.

By lap 17 Russell led Verstappen by five seconds. On lap 25 Carlos Sainz's Williams stopped on the main straight and a virtual safety car (VSC) followed; a second VSC came on laps 52-53. Antonelli set the fastest lap, a 1:10.374 on lap 59. PlanetF1 reported that he told his team he had "no confidence" in the brakes during the race.

Retirements

Four drivers did not finish: Lance Stroll, Sainz, Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas. Fernando Alonso started 21st and finished 18th after a five-second penalty for pit-lane speeding. The other incidents and stewards' decisions are covered in a separate article.
